Yeah, they sound real close especially if you turn off integer mode on Audirvana + 2.0.6. I still use 2.0.6 because I read about some problems with the newer ones (2.0.7 and 2.0.8). I used Amarra in playlist mode most of the time. I use Audirvana stand alone (I sync with the iTunes library now and then and manage my files there). With exclusive access mode active, direct mode active, and integer mode 1 active in audio settings and custom values for sample rate conversion for upsampling A+ gives me superior results over Amarra, especially with 44/16 up to 96/24 files. But when I tried version 2.0.6 of Audirvana plus I almost didn't believe my ears. I tried everything else in trial but always came back to Amarra for sound quality. Here is a link for comparison of the various iterations of Amarra: I've done this in Playlist Mode with my Traquility DAC in fact. Just for clarity, Amarra and Amarra Symphony will downsample on-the-fly automatically. Given the similarities between the Exposure and Rega DAC, I wouldn't be surprised if such an addition would result in a significant sonic improvement. I personally employ a similar setup on my Exposure DAC, I have a Belcanto mlink in between computer and DAC.

If you have a lot of native 24/192 files, you have two options: either use another playback software like one of those mentioned above, or get a USB SPDIF converter with coax out, as the Rega DAC should be able to accept 24/192 this way. I.e you're getting really mediocre playback of these files.

It reverts to ITunes for those files which downsamples it via Core Audio to whatever sampling frequency is set in AudioMidi settings. Given that Amarra doesn't have an internal on the fly sample rate converter like for example Audirvana or Bitperfect, it can't play a file that the Dac doesn't accept.
